Fibromyalgia classes

Fibromyalgia is a common condition affecting up to 5% of the adult population.  Women are more commonly afflicted and symptoms can include:

  • Muscle aches and tenderness
  • Fatigue
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Depression/anxiety
  • Delayed recovery following injury

The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown but is thought to be multifactorial – environmental, genetic, psychological and traumatic.  Management of this complex condition involves optimizing physical and mental wellbeing and may include dietary modification, relaxation strategies, sleep management, exercise progression, psychotherapy and medications (including antidepressants and analgesics).

Kingsley Studio offers both individual and group class work to gradually ‘acclimatise’ and nurture progressive tolerance of activity.  Classes are progressed in intensity and duration and incorporate education on behavioural modifications – sleep hygiene, dietary advice and strategies to manage depression/anxiety.

Group classes aim to nurture cohesive discussion amongst members and we encourage participants to share their own journey through this condition.

Classes focus on relaxation, breathing control, body awareness and progressive aerobic and strength training.  Participants are assessed by a physiotherapist at Kingsley Physiotherapy prior to commencing individual or ‘small-class’ work.  Your medication requirements may be assessed by a doctor at Kingsley Medical to optimise your management.
